Sea containers must be weighed as of July 2016!

From July 2016 it will be compulsory to weigh containers for export, the VGM (verified gross mass) must be passed on to shipping companies in time.

The prevention or limitation of the loss of containers from seagoing vessels has led IMO to adjust the SOLAS regulation VI / 2. Shippers / shippers from the country where the loading of the container is completed are obliged to weigh the containers that are loaded on seagoing vessels or to determine the mass through a calculation method to be certified by that government. This obligation excludes containers that are driven on a semi-trailer or trailer on and off a ro-ro ship for short international journeys. This has been worked out in the MSC Circular 1475. Shipowners should use the correct data for the determination of the stowage plan.
