Strikes in US ports

Unfortunately, negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the USMX (ocean carrier organization) have reached a standstill.

The ILA, which represents dock workers on the east and south coasts of the US, warns that a strike could start from October 1, 2024 if new agreements are not reached before the current agreement expires on September 30.

This can lead to major delays for container carriers who are dependent on the ports in question.

In the event of a strike, the following surcharges apply:

  • Extra congestion surcharge as of October 1, 2024:

LCL Export

  • East and South Coasts: $20 per W/M
  • West Coast: $6 per W/M

FCL Export

  • Depending on the shipping company from USD 1000.00 to USD 1500.00 per TEU.

This surcharge will remain in effect until the situation returns to normal.

For shipments imported through these ports, delays due to the strike or its consequences may also incur additional costs. These costs are passed on to our customers based on the volume of the shipment.

Some shipping companies have already indicated that they will not accept import bookings during this strike.

Braanker Logistics is closely monitoring the situation and will immediately inform customers of new updates. We will do everything we can to anticipate these developments as much as possible
